About MUSEAA
Established in September 2005, the Association aims to provide a forum for networking among all exchange alumni, while contributing to matters of national development using lessons learned from United States exchange programs. The Association is committed to promoting networking among U.S exchange alumni within different professions, contributing to Malawi’s social and economic development and to building lifelong relationships among members. Members include Malawians who participated in United States Government exchange programs, including but not limited to International Visitor, Hubert H. Humphrey, William J. Fulbright, Study of the United States Institutes, and other U.S funded programs.
2005/2006 Alumni Program Accomplishments
August 25 Panel discussion on "Food Security Interventions that Work" led by IV alumni Bettie Chinyamunyamu of NASFAM and James Chiusiwa of Department of Disaster Preparedness.
August 29 Public Affairs Section meets key alumni in Public Affairs Auditorium formation of an alumni association.
September 26 Alumni conference and formation of an Alumni Association, over 60 alumni from all over the country meet at the Public Affairs section to discuss the mission, objectives and legal structure of the Association.
December 2 World AIDS Day commemoration, panel discussion entitled "Stop AIDS: Keep the Promise" led by IV Alumni Wise Chauluka of WEC Communications and Dr. Andrew Gonani of Ministry of Health.
January 26 Lilongwe Chapter Alumni planning meeting.
February 9 Zomba Chapter planning meeting.
February 10 Blantyre Chapter planning meeting.
March 8 Women’s day commemoration at Bambino School for secondary school girls; presentations on women empowerment, rights and responsibilities by IV Alumni Zione Ntaba of Ministry of Justice and Sitabene Malange of Loita Investment Bank.
March 9 Public Affairs Section hosts the first Alumni Association executive meeting for planning 2006 alumni events.
May 6 -13 HIV/AIDS Peer Educators Training at Maula Prison by IV Alumnus Shawo Mwakilama, currently studying at School of International Training in Vermont, U.S.A.
May 9 Office of President and Cabinet grants consent to the Association to use the protected name "Malawi".
May 26 Global Youth Service Day Outreach Program organized by Lilongwe Chapter alumni, activities included presentations on discussion with the youth on volunteerism and HIV/AIDS, musical performances exhibitions and sports. Deputy Chief of Mission presents an outstanding Alumnus Award to Shawo Mwakilama.
June 25 The Association wins $ 15 000 grant from ECA
July 19 Public Affairs Officer hands over grant of $ 5000 to the Association.
July 24 The Alumni Association opens a bank account at National Bank, Capital City Branch.
Aug 3 HIV/AIDS Peer Educators Training for Zomba Maximum Security Prison by Shawo Mwakilama.
Sept 14 -16 Alumni 2006 "Civic Outreach Program" begins with permaculture training for the alumni, community volunteers and farm managers on permaculture by expert Kristof Nordin.
Oct 10 Alumni Association officially registered under the name "Malawi U.S. Exchange Alumni Association (MUSEAA)".
Oct 17 "Youth and Economic Empowerment" round table discussion in Public Affairs Auditorium led by IV Alumnus Ismael Kaunda.
October 19-21 Workshop on "Youth NGO's Capacity Building" by IV Alumina Sitabene Malange in partnership with National Youth Council.
Nov 1-4 Fulbright Alumnus Bright Mando attends Fulbright Alumni conference in Marrakech, Morocco sponsored by Public Affairs Section and U.S. Fulbright Association.
Nov 9 Follow-up visit to Mangochi plot by permaculture consultant Catherine Mfitilodze Kristof Nordin, accompanied by IV alumna Amina Mlongoti.
Nov 10 Follow up visit to Chiradzulu Plot by Kristof and Catherine accompanied by IV alumni Peter Mazingaliwa and Assiyatu Lipenga.
Nov 21 Follow-up visit to Kauma by Kristof accompanied by alumni Bettie Chinyamunyamu, Zainah Liwanda and Bright Mando.
Nov 24 Follow visit to Mzimba plot by Kristof and Catherine.
Nov 27 MUSEAA executive committee meets in Public Affairs Auditorium to discuss and monitors the "Alumni Civic Outreach Program". MUSEAA executive participates in a tele-conference with Venezuelan Fulbright Alumni Association leaders Elena Broszkowski and Maria Teresa Romero.
Nov 28 Educational visit for Kauma community volunteers to Dr. Chinkhuntha's Tikondane Freedom gardens arranged by Lilongwe Chapter.
Dec 1 Educational visit for Chiradzulu volunteers to Panthuzi permaculture garden in Blantyre arranged by Blantyre Chapter.
Dec 1 World AIDS Day commemoration "Stop AIDS Keep the Promise"; Alumni Dr. Andrew Gonani and Peter Mazingaliwa lead discussions at Mzuzu University and Polytechnic American Corners respectively.
