U.S. Embassy to hold college fair in Lilongwe
Over fifty colleges and universities from the United States will participate at the U.S. Embassy-sponsored College Fair America 2009 to be held at Sunbird Capital Hotel in the White Tent (Marquee) on Saturday, November 21, 2009 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The aim of the fair is to connect students, parents, heads of schools, teachers and guidance counselors with information necessary to access colleges and universities in the United States.
U.S. Embassy Public Affairs Officer John Warner said competitive U.S. colleges and universities look for talented, enthusiastic international students able to make significant and lasting contributions to their school and to their countries.
“U.S. colleges and universities offer educational scholarships to those future leaders eager to bring back and give back what they learn to Malawi,” said Warner. He added that Malawi was a formidable distance from the United States, “and it is very difficult for U.S. college admissions officers to get information to you because of this vast distance.”
There are over 4,300 accredited colleges and universities in the USA. College Fair America 2009 is a sampling of the type of schools you will find in the United States and it will show prospective students the types of academic programs available, how to access information about specific colleges and programs, and where these schools are located.
The fair will also help prospective students understand the application process, testing requirements, and the procedures for accessing scholarships from USA colleges and universities.
What is unique about this college fair is that each of the fifty- plus schools represented at College Fair America 2009 will represented by alumni (graduates) with intimate knowledge of their specific school and the degree programs available. Their enthusiasm is extraordinary.
The fair is designed to address programs for undergraduate, graduate, Ph.D., and professional exchange programs.
