2009 Junior Fulbright Staff Development Program
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT IN THE UNITED STATES
Call for Applications
The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy is pleased to announce the 2008 Fulbright Junior Staff Development Program. Awards are granted for study toward an advanced degree in the candidate’s current field. Applicants must already have attained a first degree.
The Fulbright program is the principal international education program sponsored by the United States Government. The program is highly competitive and only candidates with the following criteria should apply:
Eligibility Requirements
Malawian citizens or nationals, or permanent residents qualified to hold a valid Malawi passport, with residency in Malawi during the last 5 years.
Outstanding academic records, references and preparation in their chosen fields.
A high level of English proficiency (the TOEFL and GRE will be administered).
Affiliation with a professional or academic institution: candidates require the endorsement of their home institution.
Prior academic study equivalent to at least a 4 year U.S. bachelor’s degree.
Applicants need to demonstrate a serious commitment to completing the program within a specific time-frame and returning home immediately after the approved program.
Preference will be given to candidates who have not previously studied in the United States. Candidates who have studied for six months or more in the U.S. during the past five years are not eligible.
Application/Selection Process
Eligible applicants may obtain a Preliminary Application Form at the Information Resource Center, Public Affairs Section of the United States Embassy, or download an application at http://lilongwe.usembassy.gov. Final nominations are reviewed in the United States by the William J. Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board. Awards are announced by March 2009 for Fellowships beginning in August/September, 2009.
