New Education Peace Corps Volunteers to Begin Service at Locations throughout Malawi

Lilongwe –United States Ambassador to Malawi Peter W. Bodde will preside over the swearing-in ceremony for 22 Peace Corps trainees at the Ambassador's residence in Lilongwe on Tuesday, December 9 at 10:00 a.m.

The trainees, who will be working as education volunteers throughout the country, arrived in Malawi on September 30.  They have spent eight weeks in technical and cultural training at Kasina, Mpalale and Linthipe villages in Dedza District.  The cultural training included learning vernacular languages such as Chichewa and Chitumbuka.  Malawian families hosted the trainees in villages.

After the swearing-in ceremony, the Peace Corps Volunteers will be assigned to various educational institutions where they will work alongside their Malawian counterparts.
Since 1963, more than 2,300 Peace Corps Volunteers have served in Malawi.
