The Public Affairs Section of the U.S Embassy hosted American social media consultant Jean-Yves Chainon from October 21 to 27.

Chainon held social media workshops and media open discussions with students and journalists in Blantyre and Lilongwe. The workshops attracted about 120 participants from media professionals to journalism students from the Malawi Polytechnic, Media for Development students from Chancellor College, and other students from Malawi Institute of Journalism and Blantyre International University.

The workshops centered on introduction and presentation of latest digital news trends, social media as a news gathering tool, best practices; and social media as a publishing tool.

Speaking at one of the workshops in Lilongwe, the Director of Information in the Ministry of Information and Civic Education Isaac Ziba urged the participants to use social media and to make sure that information is presented clearly
