New Education Peace Corps Volunteers to Begin Service at Locations Throughout Malawi

Lilongwe – The United States Ambassador, Alan Eastham will preside over the swearing-in ceremony for 24 peace corps trainees at the ambassador's residence in Lilongwe on Wednesday, December 12, at 10:00 a.m.
The trainees, all in the field of education, came to Malawi on September 27, 2007 and have spent ten weeks in technical and cultural training at Kanyama, Zuze, Chapatali, and Mpalale Villages in Dedza District.  The cultural training included learning vernacular languages such as Chichewa and Chitumbuka.  Malawian families hosted the trainees in villages.
After the swearing-in ceremony, the peace corps volunteers will be assigned to various education institutions throughout the country where they will work alongside their Malawian counterparts.
Since 1963, more than 2,300 peace corps volunteers have served in Malawi.
