Ambassador Bodde presents passport card to Mr. Luboyeski

Passport Card

On January 22nd 2009, Ambassador Peter W. Bodde presented the very first U.S. Passport card issued in Malawi to American Citizen Victor Luboyeski.  Mr. Luboyeski is the Chief of Party for USAID's Deepening Malawi's Microfinance Sector Project (DMS).

The wallet-size passport card is convenient and less expensive than the passport book. This new travel document can be used to enter the United States from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Bermuda at land border crossings or sea ports-of-entry.

Processing time for the U.S. Passport Card is approximately 3 weeks from the time of application. The card has the same validity as the U.S. Passport Book: 10 years for an adult and 5 years for minors under age 16.  To apply, fill out an Application for Passport Form DS-11 and take it to the nearest US Embassy or Consulate. The card costs $45 for a first-time adult passport applicant and $35 for all minor applicants under age 16. Adults who already have a fully valid passport book may apply for the card as a passport and pay only $20.

Mr. Luboyeski is a resident of New Mexico and his wife was born in Canada and still has family and friends there. He looks forward to using his new Passport Card for his trips across the border to Mexico and Canada.
