Message for U.S. Citizens: Embassy Closed Monday October 13 and Wednesday October 15
The U.S. Embassy in Lilongwe, Malawi, will be closed to the public on Monday, October 13, and Wednesday, October 15, in observance of the Columbus Day (U.S.) and Mother’s Day (Malawi) holidays, respectively. No visa or other consular appointments have been scheduled between October 13 through October 15 and no walk-in appointments will be seen until Thursday, October 16. U.S. citizens seeking emergency services may contact the U.S. Embassy at 01-733-166 or via email at ConsularLilong@state.gov. The Consular Section will re-open for normal services and appointments on Thursday, October 16.

The ACS office is open to the American public for non-emergency services from 8:00 am to 11:00 am and 1:30 pm to 4:00 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays and from 9:00 am to 11:00 am on Fridays , except U.S. and Malawian holidays.

Emergencies will be handled on a case-by-case basis. The Embassy's Consular Section provides a full range of Consular services, including: renewal/replacement of passports, registering U.S. citizens, certifying the citizenship of American children born in Malawi, providing information and advice on obtaining medical or legal assistance, processing requests for Social Security and Veterans Benefits, and emergency assistance in case of illness, injury, arrest or death.
