Welcome to the US Embassy Lilongwe Consular Section website. The Embassy processes visas for applicants who normally reside in Malawi. Typical wait time for a Non immigrant visa appointment is two days. Updates to the wait time can be found here.

To apply for a visa, you will need to:

1. Fill out the application form and schedule your appointment online Click here .
2. All male applicants age 16-45 must also complete the Supplemental Visa Application Form, DS-157.   Click here to access the form.
   
3. All student and exchange visitors will need to fill out the DS-158, Contact Information and Work History form.  Click here to access the form.

What is a Visa?
A citizen of a foreign country who wishes to enter the United States must first obtain a visa. This visa can be a nonimmigrant visa for a temporary stay, or an immigrant visa for permanent residence.

A visa is issued by a U.S. Embassy or Consulate. A visa entitles the holder to travel to the United States and apply for admission at the port of entry; it does not guarantee entry. An officer of the Citizenship and Immigration Services at the port of entry determines the visa holder's eligibility for admission into the United States.
