Diversity Visas 2007 Lottery

The U.S. Embassy in Lilongwe, Malawi resumed processing Diversity Visa applications for Malawi effective June 1, 2007.
There is no initial fee to enter the DV Program. The U.S. Government employs no outside consultants or private services to operate the DV program. Any intermediaries or others who offer assistance to prepare an application do so without the authority or consent of the U.S. Government. The Diversity Immigration Program makes available each year by random selection 50,000 permanent residence visas to persons from countries that have low rates of immigration to the United States. Visas are apportioned among six geographic regions based on immigration rates over the last five years, with a greater number of visas going to regions with lower rates of immigration.

Entries for the DV- 2008 Program must be submitted electronically between noon (EST) Wednesday, October 3, 2007 and noon (EST) Sunday, December 2, 2007.
Applicants may access the electronic diversity visa entry form at www.dvlottery.state.gov during the registration period beginning noon (EST) October 3.
For instructions and more information, visit http://travel.state.gov/pdf/DV_2008_Final.pdf.

Applicants should be aware of scams and offers requesting funds to process Diversity Visa offers from email addressees with similar email address.  Only.  There are NO initial fees.

Note *

DV-2009 lottery registration ended December 2, 2007 (deadline at 12:00 noon Eastern Standard Time).
The DV-2009 lottery was conducted entirely electronically, including electronic entry.  Paper entries were not accepted.  The Department has established a dedicated website for the submission of E-DV entries, www.dvlottery.state.gov.
Successfully registered entries will result in the display of a confirmation screen containing the applicant’s name, date of birth, country of chargeability, and a date/time stamp, which can then be printed.
Applicants may prepare and submit their own entries, or have someone submit the entry for them.  Regardless of whether an entry is submitted by the individual directly, or assistance is provided by an attorney, friend, relative, etc., only one entry may be submitted in the name of each individual, and the person entering the lottery remains responsible for insuring that the information is correct and complete.  If the entry is selected, the notification letter will be sent only to the mailing address provided on the entry.

We strongly encourage posts to do extensive outreach on the DV program.  There are many myths about the DV lottery, and many potential applicants are taken advantage of by visa fixers who claim to be able to help an applicant win the lottery.
